Steph Bowler- Kennel Assistant

I’ve worked at Highwood boarding since April 2017, my favourite part of the job would have to be the bonds I make with the dogs, nothing better than a happy wagging tail just for me! I have a National Diploma in Animal Management Level 3 which has set me up perfectly for my role at…

David Warrington – Company Director

I have spent most of my working life in the Animal Feed Industry. I was Managing Director for a National Business in this industry for 20 years until 2014 when I decided to pursue other business interests.

Highwood Boarding Kennels is based at home and clearly I am strongly engaged and connected to the business.

It is important to me to create the best environment for our team to succeed and fulfil the expectations of our guests and their owners during their stay with us, this means we only employ people who are absolutely passionate about dogs and their day to day care.

As a team we understand that every guest is different and we strive to find out as much as we can about the individuality of first time stays so that we can cater for their needs.

Lauren Backhouse – Kennel Manager

I have been a part of the Highwood team since May 2010.

My favourite part of the job has to be when a nervous guest comes into the kennels and their confidence grows while boarding with us. Also when the dogs come into the kennels and they enjoy going outside with others they have lots of fun. I love talking to customers about their dog as they are their pride and joy.

My favourite breeds of dog come from the gundog group which include Spaniels, Retrievers etc. I currently own a springer spaniel who is bonkers and loves coming into the kennels to play with his friends.

I have an Extended Diploma in Animal Management, City & Guilds in Animal First Aid and I am also a fully qualified dog groomer.

Deb Slater – Kennel Assistant

I have been working at Highwood Kennels for about 4 years. I am now retired, well sort of, and enjoying walking my dog. My favourite part of the job is my interaction with the many breeds of dog.

I normally work at the kennels on Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s. At very busy times I also work extra days. I also have the nickname ‘D.I.Y Deb’, any small problem and there I am with my little box of tools!

Due to knee & back problems, I leave exercising of the dogs to the other much younger and fitter staff. Not a problem, there is always the mop and bucket to keep me busy! I get real job satisfaction when all the dogs have beautifully clean kennels.

I really enjoy my time at the kennels and work with a great and dedicated team.

Linda Hughes – Receptionist

I have been working at Highwood Kennels since 2011. I love my job and the team that I work with.

My favourite part of the job is meeting all of the different people and their dogs, as every day is different.

Zoe Lockley – Kennel Manager

I have been with Highwood since 2015 and I have loved every single minute. We have regular customers who come to us all the time which is fantastic as I do love bonding with each and every dog which boards with us.

My family has always been dog mad and my love of dogs started as soon as I could talk! Some people call me crazy for speaking to all the dogs that board with us but to me it comes naturally! I have worked with a variety of animals over the past 30 years but nothing comes close to working with dogs day in day out, it gives me great pleasure and happiness to spend all day with them to make they’re stay with us is exceptional.

I have a BSC with honours in Animal Biology and Conservation, City & Guilds in Animal First Aid and I am also a fully qualified dog groomer.
